Nikon offers 3 formats of sensors:
FX Format = Full Frame
‘Full frame’ is the term used to describe a camera with a sensor the same size as a 35mm film negative, measuring 36 x 24mm.
DX Format = APS-C
The Nikon DX format is an alternative name used by Nikon corporation for APS-C image sensor format being approximately 24×16 mm. Its dimensions are about 2⁄3 (29 mm vs 43 mm diagonal, approx.) those of the 35mm format. Nikon crop factor for DX/APS-C format is 1.5
CX Format
The format was created September 2011 by Nikon for its mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras, the Nikon 1 series.
