Mirrors
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Mirrors for dental photography are the front surface type and can be made from thick glass covered with a highly reflective surface or polished metal plates. The mirroring surface can be on one side or both sides of the mirror.
REFLECTIVE SURFACE:
A mirror is usually coated with a metal surface, chromium for example. Chromium’s metallic behavior makes the light reflected back (about 65% percent of the reflection, which is why it has a greyish tint).
REFLECTIVITY
Chromium mirrors 65-70%
Rhodium mirrors 75%
Titanium mirrors 80%
Dielectric mirrors 99%
MAINTANANCE
Mirrors will scratch over time during usage. Do not stack mirrors on top of each other. Do not put the mirrors into an ultrasonic cleaning device.
STERILIZATION:
All mirrors used in dental photography should be autoclavable. Titanium coated mirrors are more resistant to the autoclaving process.
